The Effects of Online Games on Women

In recent years, Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs) have garnered considerable attention, including in news headlines. Overplay of MMOGs is associated with increased aggression and social isolation among its users, and it can also lead to detrimental academic and occupational effects. A systematic review of MMOG effects analyzed the available evidence. It found that excessive video game play was associated with a variety of undesirable effects, including decreased social connections, increased aggression, and depression.

Contrast between male and female players

Despite the popularity of online gaming for both sexes, there is a persistent contrast between male and female players. Male gamers perceive negative aspects of female players with more concern than female gamers do. In addition, female gamers often feel that male players are more competent and are not subject to the same negative criticism. The gender difference in online gaming may also be related to how gamers view each other offline. Here are some examples of how gender affects gaming for women:

Impact on third-person perception

There are two key characteristics of online games that influence perceptions of the third person. The effect of third-person games is larger for women than for men, and perceived exposure was the best predictor. In addition, these games affect gender differences, 꽁머니 not much else. This study confirms that women perceive more negative third-person effects than men, and that the effect of gender on perceptions is small. It will be interesting to see how these effects develop in future research.

Distraction

The study used a within-subjects design to measure the distraction effects of computer games. Participants filled out a self-report questionnaire and signed a consent form. They were exposed to a baseline distraction (without games) and two types of distractions (active and passive). The order of these distractions was balanced by selecting a different paper for each participant prior to entering the room. Pain tolerance was assessed using VAS ratings, and perceived pain and absorption were assessed using seven-point Likert scales. Participants’ levels of stress, anxiety, and pleasure were also measured.

Social isolation

Future research should consider how social isolation may occur during game play and whether the player can still find social interaction with others. This research focused on how game play affects human social interaction, and examined only a sample of a certain population. Future studies may examine the impact of social isolation on gaming and overall well-being. These findings suggest that there is a clear relationship between gaming and social isolation. However, future studies should consider whether the social isolation experienced by gamers is the same as that of the general population.

IQ

Online games such as League of Legends and DOTA 2 have been linked to lower IQ, and research from York University has found that a young player’s behavior while playing them may reflect their behavior in other settings. Many of these games involve strategic thinking, so scientists think that the data can help them study the impact of these games on the brain. However, a few research studies have been conducted on the subject. In addition, many other factors may affect IQ, including age and gender.

Health

While the effects of online games on the human body are controversial, there are some clear positive outcomes of gaming, including improved motor skills, cognitive ability, and a positive outlet for aggression. However, the most widespread concerns are related to the length of time people spend playing online games. Playing for long periods of time can have negative effects on one’s physical health, mental acuity, and even sleep patterns. Additionally, gaming can dull the mind, causing people to lose interest in daily activities and other forms of physical activity.
